There are many excellent public and private schools in the Charleston area, located in Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester Counties. Both of my daughters attended public schools in the town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and received an excellent education which prepared them well for college. However, having attended an excellent private school in Philadelphia, Pa. (The William Penn Charter School) myself, I know that many familes would like such an option when relocating to the Charleston area. Students' scores on South Carolina's high school exit exam were among the best the state has posted on any standardized test this year, according to data released Friday. More than 77 percent of the state's 10th-graders passed the exit exam on their first try in spring 2007.
