Poplar Grove is a new 6000 acre community of wooded lands, tidal marsh lands and canals located in both Charleston and Dorchester counties. For residents in the Charleston County portion of the property, the public schools for which they are districted are Oakland Elementary, West Ashley Middle and West Ashley High School. Students in the Dorchester County portion would attend schools in the Dorchester 2 Public School District. There are a number of private schools in the area. such as Porter-Gaud, First Baptist, Charleston Collegiate, Ashley Hall , St. Paul's Academy and Mason Prep.

The developers anticipate a total of only 800 homes being built on this historic 18th centry tract of land. In addition to single family homes with expansive marsh, deep-water or pond views, there will be town and cottage homes to be built in early 2008, a gated section of Plantation home sites (20 to 100 acres)and an equestrian area consisting of lots three to twenty acres in size. A "Green " barn, a community center, community boat landing, boat storage, equestrian riding trails and kayak outposts will be constructed in the Equestrian phase. The equestrian center will have generous stalls and pasture acreage, turn out paddocks, round rings, a covered arena, wash rack and other features. There will be an on-site resident equestrian director with riding lessons and clinics in all equestrian from Pony Club level to Junior Equestrian Certification Program. More than 50 miles of trails and hoof-friendly lanes are planned that will provide for horse back riding and carriage driving along waterways,canals and marshes. This Equestrian community will enjoy all types of horse friendly events, including Fox Hunting on the property.
